Berkeley Russian School

Welcome

Русская школа в Беркли

To Parents, and Old and New Members of Our Russian Community:

I extend a warm welcome to all of you from the East Bay Russian Cultural Center and the Berkeley Russian School! We are pleased to have you visit us.

For 15 years we have been honored to serve the needs of Russian American families who reside in the East Bay. Our school has served the educational needs of over a thousand 3-15 year-old children for Russian language and cultural enrichment and related arts and recreational activity.

For families we provide a support network amongst Russian speakers and former immigrants who understand the problems faced by new arrivals. We are more than an organization; we are a community of compassionate individuals who provide educational, material and emotional support to a large and growing population of immigrants from the former Soviet Union.

Our primary focus always has been to help preserve Russian language and culture. We can do this by providing the best education, a congenial environment and enjoyable cultural activities to Russian speaking children and children of Russian speaking parents.

We know that when children learn about their native culture, when they continue to enjoy its customs, when they learn to speak, read and write their mother tongue, they benefit profoundly from the emotional connection it creates between themselves and their family. They can then communicate more effectively with parents, elders and friends in their community, which helps them to develop a more fully formed sense of identity while navigating the social hurdles of adolescence.

We are a community of parents and children, teachers and volunteers, supporters and donors.
We invite you to join us and become a part of our extended family!

Cordially,
Yelena Glikman
